The Americans begun a streak of victories in the south making the British look weaker and weaker leading up to their surrender. It was the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, in which the Americans with the aid of the French cornered the Red-Coats in a surprise attack forcing them to to surrender which in turn led to the end of the war and victory for the Americans. Even after a failure in securing the the colonies he still led a successful career and was knighted years later in the UK.
